Laurel A. Nugent
Laurel is a recent transplant to Melbourne, having moved back to Florida after spending time in Vermont, France and Oregon. She attended Eckerd College where she earned a B.S. in marine science. Laurel then attended Vermont Law School where she participated in their four-year dual degree program with the University of Cergy-Pontoise in France. After completing all J.D. requirements, Laurel moved to France where she earned her Masters I in Business Law and the intensive Masters II in Advanced Business Law with a focus on in-house counsel responsibilities.
During that second year, Laurel interned with DJP Avocats, the firm that handles the business and tax affairs for clients of BDO France, a global accounting firm. While with DJP she focused on international business and tax as well as research and development tax credit. Most notably, she worked on the tax consequences of a $700 million international merger, and wrote a guidebook on international R&D tax credit.
After returning to the U.S. Laurel opened a regulatory compliance consulting business while studying for the Oregon bar. She then returned to Florida where she sat for the Florida bar and worked as Judicial Assistant to Judge Silverman before moving in-house with a local international company. Laurel is thrilled to open Nugent Law and bring international business back into Brevard County.
Outside of her practice, Laurel sits on the board of Brevard County Association for Women Lawyers, a member of the French American Business Counsel of Orlando (FABCO) and is a committee member for the newly formed Space Coast Tech Center. In her free time, Laurel enjoys running and spending time with her husband exploring Florida.
